Frequently asked questions

What is CardDeck?

CardDeck is a platform for digital business cards, QR codes, barcodes, ID cards, event badges, membership cards and shareable profiles. It also generates cards and codes in bulk from a spreadsheet and captures the contacts of people who open your cards.

Who uses CardDeck?

Individuals such as freelancers, founders, consultants, agents and recruiters use it for their own card. Sales teams, small businesses and enterprises use it for branded team cards and employee IDs, and schools, colleges, events and clubs use it to issue IDs, badges and member cards in batches.

Do I need to download an app to use CardDeck?

You manage cards from the CardDeck web app in any modern browser. The people you share with need nothing at all: your card opens in their phone browser.

Is CardDeck a school management or HR system?

No. CardDeck handles identity cards, badges and profiles. It works alongside your existing school management, HR, ticketing or membership system, usually through a spreadsheet export.

Does CardDeck support NFC?

Yes, where the phone supports it. You can write your card link to an NFC card, tag or sticker so compatible phones open the card with a tap. Keep a QR code on the card too, because NFC support varies by device.

How does someone save my digital business card?

They open your card by scanning its QR code or tapping its link, then tap Save contact. The phone downloads a vCard, which the iPhone or Android contacts app adds with your name, photo, title and details.

What should I put on my digital business card?

Start with photo, name, job title, company, phone and email. Add the one or two links people actually use, such as your website and LinkedIn, and one call-to-action button like “Book a call”.

Can I have different cards for different roles?

Yes. Pro includes five cards, so you can keep a separate card for each role, brand or practice area. Each card has its own link and QR code.

What happens to my card if my phone number changes?

Edit the number on your card and save. Everyone who opens your link or scans your dynamic QR code afterwards sees the new number, with no reprint needed.

Can I add my digital card to my email signature?

Yes. Add a signature with your photo, title and a link to your full card, so every email you send carries your current details. The email signature generator builds one you can paste into Gmail or Outlook.

Can I add Apple Wallet or Google Wallet passes?

CardDeck does not currently create native Apple Wallet or Google Wallet passes. You can save your card link to your phone’s home screen and share it by QR code, link or NFC.

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static QR code stores its data inside the pattern, so it works forever but cannot be changed. A dynamic QR code stores a short link that you can point to a new destination at any time, and it records scans.

Do CardDeck QR codes expire?

Static QR codes never expire, because the data is in the code. Dynamic QR codes keep working as long as they are active in your account and within your plan’s dynamic QR limit.

What size should a printed QR code be?

Print it at least 2 × 2 cm for scanning at hand’s length. For signs and posters, make the code about one-tenth of the scanning distance, and leave a clear margin around it.

Can I add my logo to a QR code?

Yes. You can add a center logo and use your brand color. Keep strong contrast between the code and its background, and test-scan before printing.

Which barcode formats does CardDeck support?

CardDeck generates Code 128 for IDs, asset tags, tickets and labels, and EAN-13 and UPC-A for retail products, with check digits calculated automatically. Barcodes download as SVG for crisp printing.

Do I need a GS1 number for an EAN-13 barcode?

For products sold through retailers, yes: EAN-13 and UPC-A numbers should be assigned through GS1 so they are unique worldwide. For internal labels and IDs, use Code 128 with your own numbers instead.

Can I track how many times my QR code was scanned?

Yes, for dynamic QR codes. Analytics show scans over time and the channels people use. Static codes cannot be tracked, because scanning them never passes through CardDeck.

Can CardDeck make employee ID cards?

Yes. Employee ID templates include photo, name, department, employee number, validity date and a QR code that opens a verification page. Employee IDs are on the Team plan and above.

How does ID card QR verification work?

Scanning the QR code on a CardDeck ID opens a page that shows whether the card is active. When an admin deactivates the card, the page shows it as inactive immediately.

What size are CardDeck ID cards?

ID cards and membership cards use the standard CR80 size of 85.6 × 54 mm, in portrait or landscape. They export as print-ready PDFs with bleed.

Can schools create student IDs for a whole class at once?

Yes. Upload the class list as CSV or XLSX, map columns such as name, class, section and roll number, attach photos by filename and generate every ID in one batch. Student IDs are on the Business plan.

Can I make event badges with check-in QR codes?

Yes. Import your registration list, assign roles such as attendee, speaker, sponsor, staff or press, and generate a badge for everyone with its own QR code. The code works for check-in with compatible scanners and as a networking card.

How many rows can I upload in one batch?

Batch jobs allow 25 rows on Free, 500 on Pro, 2,000 on Team and 25,000 on Business. Larger lists can be split across several jobs.

How are photos matched to rows in a batch?

Upload a ZIP of photos named after each row’s ID, for example NWL-0428.jpg. CardDeck matches each photo to its row and flags any row without one.

What happens if I re-upload an updated spreadsheet?

CardDeck uses the ID column to update existing cards rather than create duplicates. Keep ID numbers unique and stable across imports.

How does CardDeck capture contacts?

When someone opens your card they can share their details back through a short form. The contact is saved with its source, such as the card, badge or QR code that brought them in, so you can tag, annotate and export it.

Can I export my contacts?

Yes. Export contacts as CSV or vCard on any plan. Team and Business plans also include CRM export.

Is contact exchange GDPR-friendly?

The exchange form records explicit consent with a timestamp, and contacts can be deleted on request. You remain responsible for how you use the contacts you collect.

Can admins stop employees from changing the card design?

Yes. On Team and Business, admins lock the template and choose which fields members can edit. The logo, colors and layout stay the same on every card.

What happens when an employee leaves?

An admin deactivates their card and ID from the dashboard. The card stops showing their details and the ID’s verification page shows it as inactive.

Is CardDeck free?

Yes, there is a free plan with no time limit. It includes 1 digital card, 2 dynamic QR codes, unlimited static QR codes and barcodes, 25-row batch jobs and 50 captured contacts.

How much does CardDeck Pro cost?

Pro costs $8 a month, or $6 a month billed yearly. In India it is ₹399 a month, or ₹299 a month billed yearly.

How is the Team plan priced?

Team is $6 per seat per month, or $5 per seat billed yearly (₹299 / ₹249), with a minimum of 3 seats. Each seat includes a card, plus shared cards for the workspace.

What does the Business plan add?

Business starts at $199 a month or $149 billed yearly (from ₹9,999). It adds unlimited cards, dynamic QR codes and contacts, 25,000-row batches, student IDs, event badges, membership cards, multiple brands, SSO, custom domain, API and priority support.

Can I cancel or downgrade at any time?

Yes. Downgrades apply at the end of your billing period and your cards stay online until then. Static codes keep working; if you exceed the new dynamic QR limit, you choose which codes stay active.

Is there a lifetime deal?

A one-time-payment lifetime deal is planned through AppSumo. Its price, tiers and limits are set on the AppSumo listing.
