In plain words
The CardDeck terms of service set the rules for using CardDeck: who can sign up, how plans and billing work, what you may and may not publish, who owns your content, what happens to QR codes when you cancel, and the limits of our liability. By creating an account or using CardDeck, you agree to these terms.
- Draft pending legal review; bracketed placeholders will be completed before publication.
- You keep ownership of your content; you give us permission to host and display it.
- Paid plans renew automatically; upgrades are prorated and downgrades apply at period end.
- Static QR codes and barcodes keep working forever; dynamic codes need an active plan.
- Don't publish misleading cards, impersonate others or misuse captured contacts.
This summary is for convenience; the full text below is what applies.
01Draft notice
These terms of service are a draft pending legal review. They show how CardDeck intends to work with its customers and may change before they are finalized. Text in square brackets, such as [registered company name and address], marks details still to be confirmed. If you have a signed agreement with CardDeck, such as an order form for a Business plan, that agreement takes priority where it conflicts with these terms.
02Who these terms are with
These terms are an agreement between you and [registered company name], registered in [country] at [registered company address] ("CardDeck", "we", "us"). If you use CardDeck on behalf of a company, school or other organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for it, and "you" means that organization.
By creating an account, joining a workspace or using the service, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, don't use CardDeck.
03Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create a CardDeck account. People of any age can view a CardDeck card without an account.
When you create an account:
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password safe and don't share your login. Each person in a team should have their own seat.
- Tell us promptly at support@carddeck.co if you think someone has accessed your account without permission.
You're responsible for activity in your account. In a team workspace, owners and admins control members' access, can edit or deactivate their cards and can see workspace data.
04The service
CardDeck lets you design and publish digital business cards, profiles, ID cards, event badges and membership cards; generate QR codes and barcodes; create items in bulk from CSV or Excel files; capture contacts; and see aggregate analytics. Features and limits depend on your plan, as described on the pricing page.
We improve CardDeck continually, so features may change. If we remove a feature that's a material part of a paid plan you're on, we'll give you reasonable notice and, where appropriate, a prorated refund.
We aim to keep CardDeck available at all times but don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, outages and factors outside our control can cause downtime. Business plan customers may have a separate service level in their order form.
05Plans, billing and renewals
Free plan
The Free plan has no time limit and no payment is needed. Cards on the Free plan show a small CardDeck badge. We may change Free plan limits with notice.
Paid plans
- Prices. Prices are shown on the pricing page in US dollars or Indian rupees. Taxes such as GST or VAT are added where applicable.
- Billing periods. You can pay monthly or yearly. Yearly plans are billed upfront for the year.
- Automatic renewal. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price, unless you cancel before renewal. We'll tell you in advance of any price change.
- Team seats. Team plans are billed per seat, with a minimum of three seats.
- Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated.
- Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period; your cards stay online until then.
- Payment. Payments are processed by [payment processor name]. If a payment fails, we may limit paid features until it's resolved.
Refunds
[Refund policy to be confirmed, for example: yearly plans may be refunded within 14 days of purchase; monthly plans are not refunded for partial months.] Nothing in these terms limits any refund or cancellation rights you have under consumer law where you live.
Promotional and lifetime offers
Deals sold through third-party marketplaces are subject to the terms shown on that listing in addition to these terms.
06Your content
"Your content" means everything you put into CardDeck: card details, photos, logos, batch files, captured contacts and anything else you upload.
- You own your content. We don't claim ownership of it.
- You give us permission to use it to run the service. You grant CardDeck a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display and process your content only as needed to provide, secure and improve CardDeck. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups for a limited period and where the law requires us to keep it.
- You're responsible for your content. You confirm you have the rights to use it, including logos, photos and trademarks, and that publishing it doesn't break any law or anyone else's rights.
- Data about other people. If you upload details about employees, students, members, attendees or contacts, you're responsible for having a lawful basis and giving any notices or getting any consents the law requires. CardDeck processes that data on your behalf as described in the privacy policy.
07Acceptable use
Use CardDeck lawfully and fairly. You must not:
- Create cards, IDs or badges that impersonate another person or organization, or that misrepresent your identity, role or credentials.
- Create counterfeit or fraudulent identity documents, or IDs for an organization you're not authorized to represent.
- Use QR codes or links to send people to malware, phishing pages, scams or illegal content.
- Use the contact exchange form or captured contacts to send spam or for purposes the person didn't agree to.
- Collect personal data through CardDeck without the notices and consents the law requires.
- Generate barcodes that misuse product identifiers you aren't entitled to use, such as GS1 prefixes assigned to someone else.
- Upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually exploitative or infringes others' intellectual property.
- Try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or get unauthorized access to CardDeck or other users' data.
- Resell the service without our written agreement, or use automated means to create accounts or scrape data.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules, and we'll tell you why unless the law or a safety concern prevents us.
08QR codes, links and what happens when you cancel
Static QR codes and barcodes store their data in the code itself, so they keep working whether or not you have a CardDeck account.
Dynamic QR codes and card links depend on CardDeck's redirect and hosting service. They keep working while your account is active and within your plan limits. If you downgrade below your number of dynamic QR codes, CardDeck shows which codes are affected and lets you choose which to keep active. If you cancel or your account is closed, dynamic codes and card links may stop resolving.
Before you print large quantities, consider which codes need to work long term. Learn more about dynamic QR codes.
09Our intellectual property
CardDeck's software, design, templates, logos and brand belong to CardDeck or its licensors. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service and templates to create your cards and codes under these terms. Cards and codes you create with our templates are yours to use, but you may not resell our templates as templates.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
10Third-party services
CardDeck may let you connect or export to other services, such as CRMs or single sign-on providers. Your use of those services is governed by their terms, and we're not responsible for them.
11Ending your account
You can cancel your plan or close your account at any time from your settings or by emailing support@carddeck.co. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep paid features until the end of the period you've paid for.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we're required to by law, or if your account has been inactive on the Free plan for [period]. Where reasonable, we'll give notice first and a chance to export your content.
After closure, we delete your content as described in the privacy policy. Sections that by their nature should survive, such as ownership, disclaimers, liability and governing law, continue to apply.
12Disclaimers
We work hard to make CardDeck reliable, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
CardDeck is a tool for creating cards and codes; it is not a verification authority. ID cards and badges created with CardDeck are issued by the organization that creates them, which is responsible for their accuracy and for how they're used. Scanning success depends on print quality, size, contrast and the scanning device.
13Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- CardDeck is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill.
- CardDeck's total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or [USD 100 / INR equivalent].
These limits don't apply to liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and they don't affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
14Indemnity
If you use CardDeck for business, you agree to defend and compensate CardDeck against claims by third parties arising from your content or your breach of these terms, for example a claim that a card you published infringed someone's trademark or that you used captured contacts unlawfully.
15Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [governing law jurisdiction], and disputes will be heard by the courts of [venue], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts or under your local law. Consumers in the EU, UK and India keep the protections of their local consumer law.
Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at support@carddeck.co so we can try to resolve the issue informally. Users in India may also contact our Grievance Officer at [name and contact details].
16Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as CardDeck and the law change. The "Last reviewed" date shows the latest version. For material changes, we'll give account holders at least [30] days' notice by email or in the dashboard. If you keep using CardDeck after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms; if you don't agree, you can cancel before they apply. Questions about these terms can go to support@carddeck.co, and our security page explains how we protect your data.
Frequently asked questions
Do I own the cards and contacts I create in CardDeck?
Yes. You own your content, including card details, logos, photos and captured contacts. You give CardDeck permission to host and process it only to run the service.
What happens to my QR codes if I cancel CardDeck?
Static QR codes and barcodes keep working because the data is stored in the code. Dynamic QR codes and card links rely on CardDeck's service and may stop resolving after you cancel.
Do CardDeck plans renew automatically?
Yes. Paid plans renew at the end of each monthly or yearly period unless you cancel before renewal. You keep paid features until the end of the period you've paid for.
Can I create ID cards for another organization?
Only if you're authorized by that organization. Creating IDs, badges or cards that impersonate someone or misrepresent credentials breaks the acceptable use rules and can lead to suspension.
What is the minimum age to use CardDeck?
You need to be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. Anyone can view a CardDeck card without an account.
Are these terms final?
No. These terms are a draft pending legal review, and bracketed details will be completed before they're finalized.
