Short answer
A gift card template is a two-sided layout for a stored-value card or voucher: the brand, the occasion greeting and the value on the front; a card number and scratch-off PIN, a to/from message, a balance QR code or the terms on the back. CardDeck’s templates cover 26 brands — restaurants, cafés, spas, shops, bars, gyms, cinemas and experiences — in four formats: a CR80 card, a DL voucher, a square card and a hang tag. Each one becomes a gift card program in CardDeck Gift, where cards are sold online or in store and redeemed by scanning the code.
- Four formats: CR80 card (85.6 × 54 mm), DL voucher (210 × 99 mm), square (90 × 90 mm) and hang tag (55 × 95 mm).
- Six layouts: value hero, minimal, pattern, ribbon and bow, photo, and voucher with a tear-off stub.
- Four backs: card number and scratch PIN, to/from note, balance QR, terms.
- Occasions: birthday, holiday, thank you, wedding, new baby, corporate and everyday.
- Every card is a program in CardDeck Gift: issue, sell online, redeem by scan and track the balance.
Which gift card format should you choose?
Match the format to where the card is sold and how it is given.
- CR80 card is the wallet-sized plastic card people expect at a till. Print on PVC with a magstripe or barcode on the back for the point of sale.
- DL voucher is the envelope-sized paper voucher for restaurants, bars and experiences; the tear-off stub keeps a record at redemption.
- Square suits boutiques and florists, sits well in a small envelope and gives the brand room.
- Hang tag hangs from a bottle, a bouquet or a bag; the hole is punched in the top.
Digital gift cards use the same design as a wallet pass and in email, so a buyer online and a buyer in the shop get the same card.
What goes on the back of a gift card
The back carries the parts that make the card redeemable and safe:
- Card number and PIN — a 16-digit number, a scratch panel for the PIN and a barcode for the till. This is the standard for stored-value cards.
- To / from message — ruled lines for a handwritten note, with the value and serial number at the foot. Good for gifts bought in person.
- Balance QR — a code the recipient scans to see the balance and redeem online, with the card number printed beneath.
- Terms — the redemption terms, validity date and website, for vouchers sold to companies or through partners.
CardDeck Gift generates the card number, PIN and codes for every card you issue; the template only sets where they print.
From template to a gift card program
Using a template creates a gift card program in CardDeck Gift with the design applied: the layout, colours, font and greeting. You then set the values on offer (fixed amounts or a custom amount), whether cards expire, and whether to sell them on your storefront. Each card issued gets its own code; staff redeem by scanning it, and the balance updates in place.
Occasions are built into the designs — “Happy birthday”, “Season’s greetings”, “For the newlyweds”, “With appreciation” — and can be edited per program.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell gift cards online with these templates?
Yes. A template opens as a gift card program in CardDeck Gift. Turn on online sales and the program appears on your storefront, where buyers choose a value, pay, and receive the card by email or as a wallet pass.
How are gift cards redeemed?
Staff scan the card’s QR code or barcode, or type the card number, in CardDeck Gift. The amount redeemed is deducted and the remaining balance stays on the card.
Can I print the cards?
Yes. Export the design as a print-ready PDF for PVC cards, paper vouchers, square cards or hang tags; the card number, PIN panel and barcode are placed by the template.
Which plan includes gift cards?
CardDeck Gift is included on the Business plan. Gift card programs, online sales, redemption and balance tracking are part of it.
